About
Louise Marshall Graphic Design grew out of my position at Leo Burnett. I worked in the in-house graphic design studio. In the 90s, Art Directors didn’t have ready access to computers or typesetting equipment. They needed a graphic design studio to turn their hand-drawn comps into camera ready art. Since they were happy with my work on the Burnett projects, they would hire me to do their personal work. I also started getting my own side jobs from friends/relatives, such as party/wedding invitations, band appearance posters, music CD covers/booklets. My side business was doing well and I decided to leave Burnett in 1997. Marshall Design opened full time in January 1998 providing creative design, digital production and print service to ad agencies, marketing firms, commercial businesses and non-profit organizations.
Some of Marshall Design’s early clients were Art Directors and Internal Departments at Leo Burnett. The projects were for non-profits and employee events. This connection grew into the additional clients from Burnett affiliates, such as Bcom3, Starcom, Lapíz and Relay Sports & Event Marketing. Corporate communication projects were created for Bcom3 and Starcom. Lapíz & Relay hired LMGD for the production of advertising and marketing materials for their clients such as Coca-Cola, Jack Daniels and Allstate. Soon, non-profits as well as some former CEOs began to issue direct contracts. Other early clients, referred by friends and relatives, were small local businesses that needed logos, stationary sets and advertising. The relationships with some of these original clients, including Hans Nombach Home Exteriors, continue to this day.
Since its inception, the business is constantly evolving and keeping pace with the industry’s technological advances. Initially, scanning was prevalent but, when Art Directors moved towards the use of computers, hand-drawn sketches were replaced by Photoshop/Illustrator/Quark files. Sustainability efforts included supplanting FedEx delivery of prints & discs with e-mailing pdf files and native files uploaded to ftp sites. Now, smart phones can receive files as well.
The company’s longevity is due to the timely delivery of high quality work to its clients. Although the advertising industry is fluid, having excellent working relationships with clients guarantee the successful future of both.
